How to Look Up a Court Case in Sevier County?
Sevier County court cases can be searched through several official channels, depending on the court involved and the type of access you need.
Online via Xchange:
The Utah Courts' Xchange public case search system is the main online tool for searching both district court and justice court records. Xchange displays party names, case numbers, assigned judges, attorneys of record, filed documents, hearings, judgments, and case outcomes. Images of public documents filed in district court cases since July 1, 2010 are available for purchase through the system. Formal Written Records Requests:
For court records not accessible online, submit a Request for Court Record form to the appropriate clerk's office. Paper copies cost $0.25 per sheet. Fax or email delivery is $5.00 for 10 pages or fewer, then $0.50 per page thereafter. Staff time beyond 15 minutes is billed at rates ranging from $15.00 to $100.00 per hour depending on the staff member required. These fees are set by Utah Code of Judicial Administration Rule 4-202.08.
Are Court Records Public in Sevier County?
Court records in Sevier County are presumptively public under Utah law, but the rules that govern judicial records are separate from general public records law. While the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) broadly covers government records, GRAMA's appeal process does not extend to court records. Instead, access to judicial records is governed by Utah Code of Judicial Administration Rule 4-202.02, which classifies each record as public, private, protected, or sealed.
Records restricted from public access include:
- Juvenile court records — Delinquency cases, child welfare proceedings, dependency cases, and termination of parental rights cases are not available on Xchange and are not publicly accessible.
- Sealed records — Adoptions, civil commitment proceedings, and records sealed by court order are withheld.
- Expunged records — Cases that have been expunged are removed from public access.
- Certain civil case documents — Effective April 1, 2012, many documents in divorce, separate maintenance, guardianship, conservatorship, paternity, cohabitant abuse, and related family proceedings became private under Rule 4-202.02, though case histories with public hearing entries and final orders generally remain accessible.
- Protected personal information — Social Security numbers, financial account details, and similar sensitive data are redacted from public court records.
Case histories, minute entries from public hearings, judgments, orders, decrees, and letters of appointment are generally public unless a specific judicial order restricts them. Anyone may access public court records; only authorized persons — typically parties to the case, their attorneys, or individuals with a court order — may access non-public records.
Sevier County Criminal Court Records
All felony cases and Class A misdemeanors in Sevier County are filed in and adjudicated by the Sixth District Court in Richfield. The court handles arraignments, preliminary hearings, trials, and sentencing for these more serious offenses. Criminal case records from the district court are searchable through Xchange, where public case information becomes available as soon as court staff enter it into the system.
Class B and Class C misdemeanors, infractions, and traffic violations are handled by the Sevier County Justice Court and the Aurora Justice Court. Incident reports and arrest records held by the Sheriff's Office are subject to GRAMA, and requests must be submitted in writing. Sevier County Civil Court Records
Civil cases in Sevier County are divided between the Sixth District Court and the Justice Courts based on the amount in controversy. Sevier County Family Court Records
The Sixth District Court handles all family law proceedings in Sevier County, including divorce, legal separation, child custody, child support, paternity, domestic violence protective orders, adoptions, guardianships, and name changes. The Sevier County Justice Court explicitly does not handle divorce, child custody, juvenile cases, or guardianship.

Keep in mind that since April 1, 2012, many documents in divorce, guardianship, conservatorship, custody, and cohabitant abuse cases have been classified as private under Rule 4-202.02. Divorce records can be searched through Xchange. For divorce verification letters issued by the state, the Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics can provide certified divorce certificates for divorces recorded in Utah, available through the Utah vital records online ordering system. A divorce certificate costs $25.00 for the initial certified copy (effective July 1, 2026), with $10.00 for additional copies ordered the same day.

The license fee is $45.00 (non-refundable), which includes one certified copy. A license is valid for 30 days and may be used anywhere in Utah. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; those aged 16 or 17 require parental consent and written judicial authorization. Applicants should download and complete the Marriage Application Worksheet in advance.
Certified copies of marriage licenses cost $6.00 per copy (certified) or $2.00 (uncertified) and can be requested online via the Sevier County Marriage License Copy Request form, in person, or by mail using the Copy Request Form sent to the Clerk/Auditor's Office. Access is restricted to persons with a direct, tangible, and legitimate interest as defined by Utah Code 26B-8-125(3).
Birth records from 1889 to 1905 are held by the Clerk/Auditor's Office. A certified birth certificate costs $25.00 through the state vital records office. Mail requests can be sent with a completed birth certificate application to Vital Records, P.O. Death records follow the same custodial split: records from 1889 to 1905 are at the Clerk/Auditor's Office, and records after 1905 are at the Central Utah Public Health Department. Death records become publicly available after 50 years. A certified death certificate costs $35.00 for the initial copy (effective July 1, 2026). Mail requests use the death certificate application form and are sent to the same Salt Lake City address above.
Sevier County Probate Court Records
Probate matters in Sevier County — including the administration of deceased persons' estates, will probations, guardianships, and conservatorships — are handled by the Sixth District Court in Richfield. The court's probate division processes petitions for letters of administration, declarations of heirship, inventory filings, and estate accountings.
Probate case records are searchable through Xchange for cases entered into the CORIS system. Historical probate records from the Sixth District Court dating back to the territorial period are also available through the Utah Division of Archives probate records collection.
